RESCUEPAX Chief Instructor Dan Bernardy has a long history of developing and implementing fire and life safety programs for the fire service community.

Get Your Butt Outside

In 2007 Dan Bernardy began creating this public safety campaign and the mission of the project is simple. It's goal is to provide the smoking public with the tools and training necessary to enjoy their habit more safely. The fact is that the careless use of smoking materials causes more fire deaths each year than any other cause of fire. These incidents are very predictable and preventable. We believe that if a person is given the tools to a safer future, they will take a responsibility for their safety and the safety of those around them. Visit the program site here.

Governor's Fire Prevention Day

Now the largest fire prevention event in the world, Dan Bernardy created and today still coordinates the Governor's Fire Prevention Day at the Minnesota State Fair. The annual "Governor's Fire Prevention Day" takes place on the first Friday of the Minnesota State Fair, bringing the fire safety message to over 100,000 people in a single day. It is a fun-filled, action-packed event, offering opportunities for families to learn about fire-safe behavior, fire prevention, safe escape from a fire, as well as technological improvements in burn treatment and firefighting equipment. The H.E.A.T Team

Healing, Education, And Training is a Family Fire Safety Program for Regions Hospital Burn Center that Dan Bernardy has created and is expanding rapidly.

The mission of the HEAT program is to  implement a family fire safety program to reduce the injury, death, and property loss due to juvenile set fires as well as unsafe environments and practices.

We can accomplish this objective by educating people of all ages on the dangers of fire, teaching them to take a personal responsibility for themselves, their families, their homes, and their surroundings.

Fire Explorers

Fire Explorer Logo
Fire Explorer LogoSince 1998, Dan Bernardy has had the pleasure and responsibility of training many youth in his community about the fire service, the life of a community servant, and volunteerism.

The award winning Inver Grove Heights Fire Department Explorer Post #627 was established in 1997. For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of fire service, Exploring offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth.

Over the years, our Explorer Post has performed thousands of hours of community service providing fire safety education at community events, canvassing high risk communities installing smoke alarms, and assisting with fire department needs. They have competed at local, state and national competitions, are well known for their military bearing and have a reputation as being respectful, hardworking, and focused. Many past Explorers are productive members on the fire department now after becoming adults. The Post has also been recognized by the Northern Star Council with the “Community Service Award” recipient for 4 consecutive years.
